A study led by Dr. Higgins was recently recognized by the Triological Society (an ENT specialty society in the United States) in ENTToday as one of the important studies published in May. The link to the article about the study can be found here (click on "Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve Monitoring No Better Than ID Alone"). The research performed is the largest study ever to date comparing outcomes (specifically, risk of vocal fold paralysis) following thyroidectomy performed using electrical nerve monitoring to identify the nerve versus anatomically identifying the nerve alone.
