Two studies in the May 2016 issue of the International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology evaluated the different routes of immunotherapy. Patient Preferences of Immunotherapy RouteIn a study out of Cornell University in New York, 228 adults undergoing allergy testing were surveyed regarding their preference of 4 different immunotherapy delivery methods, including subcutaneous (SCIT), sublingual (SLIT), allergy immunotherapy tablets (AIT), and oral mucosal immunotherapy via toothpaste delivery (OMIT). Subcutaneous immunotherapy was the least preferred, and sublingual immunotherapy was the most preferred. The participants ranked the following their most preferred: 34.6% SLIT 28.1% OMIT 26.8% AIT 10.5% SCIT Patient Compliance with ImmunotherapyA study from Emory University evaluated immunotherapy compliance, comparing SCIT and SLIT. The retrospective analysis of 384 immunotherapy patients (74 SCIT, 200 SLIT) concluded that excellent compliance with SCIT was higher (62%) than SLIT (31%). --
