The inferior turbinates are functional structures on the sides of the nasal cavities that expand and contract with irritants, such as allergies. They help moisturize the air we breathe and control the sensation of nasal airway. Inferior turbinate hypertrophy is a condition in which inflammation of these structures cause nasal obstruction.
