More About Rhinology and Dr. Thomas Higgins
Dr. Thomas Higgins is a fellowship-trained Rhinologist who has sub-specialty expertise and research interest in managing conditions related to the nose, paranasal sinuses, and anterior skull base. He routinely manages complicated sinus disease that has not responded well to prior medical therapy and surgery. While there are many "Sinus Surgeons," there are only a few specialists in the world who have advanced Rhinology training beyond residency like Dr. Higgins. His expertise allows him to help patients who have had resistant problems despite multiple sinus surgeries and those who other "sinus surgeons" or ENTs say there is not help. Dr. Higgins works with specialist neurosurgeons and ophthalmologists to perform skull base and eye-related procedures through the nose, often without the need for skin incisions. Dr. Higgins is actively involved in research of nose and sinus problems; he continues to be at the forefront of innovations in sinus disease management and surgery.

When to Choose A Fellowship-Trained Sinus Specialist?
Chronic nose and sinus problems have been shown to greatly impact a person's quality of life. These issues often require care by an otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, & Throat or ENT physician) and/or medical allergist. Many of the area's ENT and medical allergy physicians are excellent in treating chronic nose and sinus disease. Reasons for deciding to see a fellowship-trained sinus surgeon may be different for every patient. Some patients may not be satisfied with the amount of improvement their treatment has provided. Others may seek a second opinion for a recommended treatment plan or surgical intervention. Most patients are referred from their treating physician, which may include their primary care physician, allergist, pulmonologist, ENT surgeon, neurosurgeon, or ophthalmologist. We encourage you to discuss your options with your physician.
